Dear St. Timothy classmates:

On July 5, 2024, the school will hold its graduation ceremony. Thanks to the distinguished alumnus Professor Ling Kar-kan, the Silver Bauhinia Honoree officiated at the ceremony, delivered the training and conferred the diploma.

Professor Ling Kar-kan is a 1969 graduate of St. Timothy's Primary School AM. He is currently the interim Vice-President (Campus Development and Facilities Management) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Director of the Jockey Club Social Innovation Design Institute.

Professor Ling is a professional urban planner. He has served as the Director of the Planning Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners. He has also served as a strategic planning consultant for Hong Kong-Shenzhen cooperation, assisting the Chief Executive in formulating the "Northern Metropolitan Area Development Strategy". He currently holds public offices such as Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Society and Chairman of Country Parks and Marine Parks. He is also appointed as a Visiting Professor at the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Practical Professor (Planning) at PolyU, and an Associate Academician of the University College of Industrial Management, UK.

Professor Ling was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2017 and won the 2021 Hong Kong Innovation Leader Award.

We have been authorized by Alumni Ling to share his speech at the ceremony that day with all parents and students. We would like to encourage everyone to remember our alma mater’s 137-year history of unremittingly and humbly serving the grassroots citizens. You and I are part of this history. Please remember the motto of your alma mater, "Not to be Served, but to Serve.", and in the spirit of "serving the people", you must grow into a citizen who has the courage to take responsibility for yourself, your family, society, and the country.
